The Bay FromLos Altos Hills #1

This is San Francisco Bay from the City of Los Altos Hills. The picture was taken from the side of the road on Briones Way.

Red Hat RickCheckerboard

To demonstrate a point to a friend, something about a series of photos with just a color change, I created this quick checkerboard picture. It started with a self-portrait in a mirror. I was wearing a red baseball-type cap for the photo. I didn't bother to flip the picture to compensate for the mirror.

The colors were the result of taking a photo of the head of one of our baby chickens and "reducing" it to an image of 64 (8x8) solid-colored squares. If you squint really, really hard, well, you probably still can't make out the chick.

Firenze At DuskFrom Piazza Michelangelo

During our last visit to Italy, we neared Florence at dusk. When arriving by car, which we were, my favorite approach is via Piazza Michelangelo. Despite the disappearing sunlight, the view is spectacular.

Meteor No Shower

This is an east facing view from my backyard. I was trying to capture images of the Perseid meteor shower, 8/12/04, at about 2:45AM. The overcast sky reflecting city lights pretty much eliminated the possibility. This pic shows that our hedge needs trimming, which maybe I should have done while removing the telephone wires with the image editing software...

Colonna Antonina at Night

We stumbled upon this column, Colonna Antonina, while wandering Rome one night. It is in the Piazza Colonna, in which you will also find the Palazzo Chigi, a fountain in the foreground of the picture, and the Palazzo del Vicegerente (vice governor's palace) in the background. Colonna Antonina is about a 5 minute walk to the west, across Via del Corso, from the Trevi Fountain.
